Through our sponsorships and donations, we are proud supporters of a wide variety of activities, endeavours and groups that contribute to the fabric of life in Australia and New Zealand.
We invest in sporting, cultural and charitable activities, all with the aim of building communities and have established long-term partnerships that really make a difference to the lives of Australians and New Zealanders.
Whether it be through supporting those that are experiencing tough times or activities and endeavours that bring people together for good times, we’re there and will continue to be so whenever we possibly can.

In sport
Our sporting sponsorships cross all manner of endeavours and bring different and varied communities together. We all enjoy supporting others to have a go, and having a go ourselves. That’s what being an Aussie or a Kiwi is about.
Our sporting sponsorships cross all manner of endeavours and bring different communities together. So whether you enjoy rugby union, rugby league, Australian rules, cricket, beach cricket, V8 Supercars, sailing, surfing, surf lifesaving, multi-sport, fishing, golf, bowls or horse racing, it’s likely we’ll see you there. We don’t mind if you’re in the stands, on the field or even watching the game on TV – as long as you’re having a good time.
In the Arts and entertainment
Our commitment to cultural events comes from understanding that people have wide and varied interests and that the ability to join 30,000 others at a music festival, or even 100 others at a flower show, adds to the enjoyment that people everywhere get from life.
From music lovers dancing at the Big Day Out festivals around Australia and in New Zealand, to young families taking in the Christmas Riverbank Display in Adelaide, there’s plenty to do.
The natural connection between our products and food is also supported through our involvement in Good Food Month in Australia and the Bluff Oyster Festival in New Zealand. Film at the Open Air Cinema or art at the Affordable Art Show - so many choices! And our commitment to the artisanship of craft brewing works perfectly with our support of the New Zealand Arts Foundation’s endeavours to support New Zealand artists, performers and craftspeople.
Lion Nathan Australia has an exciting partnership arrangement with Kookaburra, The National Musical Theatre Company. Kookaburra was established in 2006 with the aim of providing a vehicle to locally develop and promote musical theatre and contribute to the development of Australia's local creative talent. Specifically, Lion Nathan's contribution will go toward sponsoring 'The Nest', a component of the Company dedicated to nurturing emerging talent. Initially this will involve commissioning a young musical director to develop productions for the Company. Some of our charity partners are also now involved with Kookaburra’s Discover the Theatre program, which gives disadvantaged children the opportunity to attend shows, meet the performers and production crews and learn more about what it’s like to work in theatre. For more information about Kookaburra, go to www.kookaburra.org.au.
Socially
We work hard to support a large number of charitable causes and projects with values and objectives similar to our own. In fact, we provide direct monetary or product support to over 200 causes each year to help make people’s lives a little better than they might otherwise have been.
In 2006 we established a major partnership with the Pathways Foundation, a non-profit organisation that seeks to improve relationships between parents and young Australians. With government research indicating role model behaviour, particularly that of parents, as being a key factor to underage drinking and evidence suggesting that a great number of those under the legal age who choose to misuse alcohol do so as a ‘rite of passage’, the mentoring intiatives established by Pathways are important initiatives that can make a real difference to the lives of young people by helping them navigate what can be, in many cases, a difficult transition to adulthood. The structured programs strengthen the parent-child bond by giving families the chance to spend quality time together and to share experiences that enhance their relationship. Our annual contribution to the Pathways Foundation makes a real difference by increasing their budget by about a third.
We are also a major supporter of Father Chris Riley's Youth Off The Streets (YoTS). The primary aim of YoTS is to help young people re-connect with their families or to live independently, with an education and job in hand. The well known charity provides a number of services including drug and alcohol programs, crisis refuge, outreach services, a scholarship program and early intervention resources for schools. Our commitment to YoTS includes funding support that will enable a clinical psychologist to join the YoTS team, a position that forms part of an early intervention strategy for 'at risk' teenagers and their families.
Lion Pride, our workplace giving initiative, is a simple, efficient way for our people and business to support the community. Our people have selected a number of charities to support and for every dollar our people give, we match it, doubling the benefit for the charity. In Australia Lion Pride proudly supports the following charities:
In New Zealand Lion Proud supports the following six charities:
In addition, we take the time and effort to develop independent projects that raise money and awareness for causes we believe in. The West End Water Fountain at our South Australian Brewing Company, for example, has raised over $600,000 since 2001.
